Stuck in traffic and want instant conditions? Starting this week you can call 866-698-7232 and get live traffic reports for roads in 40 different metro areas around the country. You need to register your mobile phone and route at the traffic.com Website. Then you’ll get a Pin number to punch in. The free hotline, goes live just in time for the Memorial Day holiday.

Looks like a pretty cool service, but Ann Arbor appears not to be covered. On a trip I set up from Ann Arbor to Detroit, only about one-third of the trip had “sensors” on it, so anything West of Metro Airport (I’m guessing; maybe west of 275) is not covered. Rats.

OK, ignore what I wrote above. I does appear to cover the Ann Arbor area as well as it lists the troublesome construction on 94 at US-23. I think I misinterpreted the first report.

So, the only thing I wrote that seems to be valid is “looks like a pretty cool service.”
