Shuffle gets competition

    Mike–

    Hate to break it to ya, but that so-called “increased storage” is nonsense. It’s the same 512MB that the Shuffle has. The “increased storage” of 220 songs is based on ripping the music at 64Mbps WMA instead of 128, and 64Mbps has about the same audio qualiy as tin cans on a string.

    Apple could do this as well, if they wished–in fact, iTunes can be set as low as 16Mbps. Using this logic, a 512MB Shuffle could hold up to 900 songs–but I wouldn’t recommend it!

    Whoops! My bad! Yes, I meant 64kbps vs. 128kbps :)
