SunRocket service outage

July 11, 2005 by Mike Wendland

Oh boy. What have I done?
One week after pulling the plug on my landline phone, SunRocket - the VoIP service I went with - has been experiencing a system wide network outage for the last couple of hours.
I called service and did get through to a tech after a short wait. He said the company had no cause yet but that “everyone and I mean everyone here is working on it.”
I’m glad my mobile phone works. But this is not a good omen.
My wife is pretty ticked at me for going with “such an unproven technology” and suggests I should know better. Yada yada yada.
She’s probably right, though.

You and I know it’s Murphy’s Law, but most women don’t understand that. (I’m in trouble now!) It could have just as easily been all of your neighbors phones were not working and you were the only one in the neighborhood with phone service. Is the voice mail still taking messages while the system is down? Keep us informed. At $16.58 a month I’m thinking of getting it just for the long distance, the second number in another state, along with all the bells and whistles; and still keep a bare bones local service.

No, the voicemail isn’t working either. Callers to my number are faced with about 60 seconds of silence followed by a fast busy signal.

I too cancelled by SBC service, about a month ago, because I was so confident that Sunrocket’s VOIP was ready. When I learned that E911 worked, it pushed me over - but now, I’m thinking about doing what Mike W just did… go back to SBC. :( :( :( :(

    Try Vonage… excellent value.

I’ve had vonage for almost 2 years with NO problems. I never heard of SunRocket so I think your problem was related to a start up company that does not know what they are doing. Go with Vonage. Once you see all the features, quality, and price you’ll dump SBC and never look back.

Sunrocket website was also down. They give VoIP a bad name. My wife now thinks that VoIP is an unreliable technology, not ready for prime time.

I joined SunRocket at “the beginning” and have had nothing but a GREAT experience. I had some initial outages, but they normally get cleared up quickly and the signup bonuses couldn’t have been better.

I made the mistake of signing up my parents with Vonage b/c SunRocket wasn’t available in their area yet. That has been a big mistake… High prices, questionable features, reliability has been so-so… I just wish I had waited for SR to come to their area now.
