Although I’m somewhat of a tech junkie myself, I believe that Government should not be in the business of providing broadband internet access to the masses. Why? It’s got too much else to do. Our Government fails to stop crime, it fails to maintain our roads, it fails to educate our children, it fails to feed the hungry, it fails to house the homeless, it fails to be accountable to us for it’s financial well-being, and now it wants to provide “free” internet.

I don’t want broadband internet to fail. Like every other technology such as television, telephones, radio, and even computers themselves, when the technology can be provided at an affordable cost, it will be. That’s the nature of our free market economy. Government has already taken care of broadband Internet for the poor by providing access at public libraries and schools anyway. Why expand on this only to say that we have something cool in Oakland county. Government concentrating on and performing its Constitutional duties would be cooler and an even bigger boost to our economy.

If we’ve come away from hurricane Katrina learning only one thing, let it be this. Government is not God. It cannot do everything. In fact it cannot do all that it professes that it wants to do.

If we are to have more affordable broadband in Oakland County, Michigan, or anywhere else, Government needs to get completely out of the way and allow broadband access to fourish on market forces. Currently it’s held back by anti-competitive legislation. Release the noose of regulation and watch what happens. It works every time it’s tried.

On local TV news, I hear PC Mike say to go to his website to see satelite/aerial images of anywhere I type in, and able to zoom in and zoom out.
But I don’t see anything like that - that is, the sample which was shown on the TV. How do I get to find my foreign relatives’
homes as well as in the U.S. via satelite or “aerial” images?
    Thank you! -Mame-
