Comcast lagging another night
April 13, 2005 by Mike Wendland
If you access the Net through Comcast, you probably won’t be able to read this post tonight. Once agan, Comcast’s DNS name servers are barely working, slowing access to a crawl. It’s the seond night in a row and the third time in a week the service has experienced unspecified “server problems.”
The company is very tightlipped about exactly what’s wrong, how extensive it is and when it will be back to normal - reminiscent of the public relations fiasco of a couple years ago when it minimized widespread outages and customer complaints by pretending that all its problems were being blown out of proportion.
As Comcast stalls and chokes yet another night, users are taking matters into their own hands with workarounds like the ones suggested here.
Anyway, looks like another frustrating night for Comcast customers in many places of the country.Comcast DNS Servers Lagging AGAIN

I have Comcast at my home on the edge of Chicago, IL. So far, here, my broadband connection is up to speed, as are two other Comcast accounts in the area that I maintain. I just ran a speed test and got 3626 kbps down and 316 kbps up for my residential service. Keep up the heat; the problems, if not dealt with, are bound to affect different neighborhoods in the future.
Thanks Mike. I’m in the Metro Detroit area like you and this was helpful to have the workarounds. I was definitely noticing the slow down.
Been having problems in Atlanta, too. Thanks for pointing out the workarounds — found them yesterday, and just in time!
As for Comcast’s tight lips, is it just me or do they go out of their way to cultivate poor public relations and customer service? The tech who installed my service lives in a neighborhood with a choice of providers, and he chose a competitor over his own employer! I suppose if I dealt with Comcast customer service several times a day, I would probably do the same….
Regarding COMCAST and their DNS - our company moved servers (changed our DNS IP) while had this outtage - 3 months laters their system still hasn’t picked up the change, after dozens of phone calls to them I was still unable to reach anyone who could tell an IP from their own a55!
DNS is critical (obviously) and since they ARE one of the leading ISPs for the US (god can only know why) - this has cost us and our clients alot of $$$
There’s only one way to deal with a company like this - don’t use them.
