Podcasting record tools still lacking

Monday, July 18th, 2005

The podcasting craze shows no signs of letting up. Podcasting Spurs a Media Land Grab. Most podcasts, though, are pretty amateurish, with poor quality and limited material. My biggest frustration in making podcasts is the lack of an all-in-one recording tool that makes the creation process simple.

SunRocket’s explanation

Friday, July 15th, 2005

I received an e-mail apology and explanation from SunRocket today about the big system shutdown earlier this week that sent me, hat in hand, back to SBC to get my landline restored.. Here’s an excerpt:
On behalf of SunRocket and all of our dedicated employees, I would like to apologize for any inconvenience that resulted from […]

Big screen monitor

Thursday, July 14th, 2005

Reader John Eisenschenk from Grand Rapids, MI has his priorities right. He recently bought a big screen TV to replace the 19-incher in his apartment. He also bought a 20-inch monotor for his ‘putrer. But after bringing home the ViewSonic 31 1/2″ LCD Monitor/TV and the monitor he thought about what was really important and […]

Longhorn may not be until 2007

Tuesday, July 12th, 2005

Microsoft just keeps pushing back the planned release of Longhorn. Now, the launch date is sometime in the fall of 2006, but officials concede it could be 2007. Longhorn To Ship next year or later. That means WIndows XP, already outdated by most measurements, is going to be mighty long in the tooth before […]

Then there’s SBC…

Monday, July 11th, 2005

The VoIP SunRocket service has been out for more than six hours now. Even the SunRocket Web site is down more than it’s up.
So… hat in hand… I called SBC, my regional phone company, to confess that I made a horrible mistake in disconnecting my landline two weeks ago and to ask them to take […]

SunRocket service outage

Monday, July 11th, 2005

Oh boy. What have I done?
One week after pulling the plug on my landline phone, SunRocket - the VoIP service I went with - has been experiencing a system wide network outage for the last couple of hours.
I called service and did get through to a tech after a short wait. He said the company […]

Citywide wi-fi is not an easy feat

Monday, July 11th, 2005

There were couple days last week when I didn’t post anything new here. That’s because I was in Grand Haven, MI, the first place in the country to launch citywide wi-fi last year. I wanted to see how well it worked on its first anniversary, especially since whole counties and many other cities around the […]

Landline is cut, I’m all VoIP now

Tuesday, July 5th, 2005

I did it. I finally pulled the plug on my SBC landline and — gulp — now rely totally on Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) for my home telephone service.
Aside from the geeky and cumbersome VoIP moniker, I’ve seen very little difference between using the Internet to call and the way it’s always been with […]

My bike blog

Saturday, July 2nd, 2005

This blogging stuff gets into your blood.
I’m spending a lot of time keeping blog about my bike riding called Ride. If I’m not here, especially when tech news is slow, look for me there. It has little to do with tech but, in terms of keeping me motivated towards training for some long distance […]
