Skype offers free phone calling

May 15, 2006 by Mike Wendland

This is huge for fans of the popular Skype Internet communications service. Through the end of the year, users can now use the so-called Skypeout feature, which allows users to make calls from their computer to regular and landline telephones. The company, owned by eBay, used to charge for computer-to-telephone calls. The free service is for calls to the U.S. and Canada only.

I thought skype was a good applicaton until I learned that it was written by the people who wrote Kazaa. (A program creaed for file sharing, but used in the windows world for piracy) It’s up there with the original napster and limewire. Since then, it’s off my system.

It’s a great application, and just because people used the apps that you referred to above for piracy does not mean that the app is somehow “evil”. It’s on my system and I use it daily, and as far as I know, I am not breaking any copyright laws or doing anything illegal.
