Finding e-mail addresses can be daunting

May 31, 2007 by admin · Leave a Comment

It isn’t easy. And sometimes, trying to figure out who an e-mail is coming from is all but impossible. There are lots of freebie come-on products purporting to help locate and reverse list e-mail addresses but one that seems to be pretty good is the Worldwide e-mail address finder.

They charge a reasonable $19.95 one time fee for this but their databases cover almost the entire world and are used by law enforcement, government, lawyers, private investigators and many other professionals.

Seems worth the investment, especially with e-mail now more common and important than snail mail.

Cool weather map mashup

May 18, 2007 by admin · Leave a Comment

Making Google map mashups is quite the rage. But the coolest one I’ve ever seen is from A.J. Hartley, whose Pleasant Weather site has one that pops up showing live weather conditions for Michigan…. and…. if you grab it and move the cursor… a whole lot more. Check it out here. You’ll want to bookmark A.J.’s map. I’ve never seen one so handy.

YouTube Political vids

The 2008 Presidential election just may go down as the YouTube campaign. The hugely popular video sharing service run by Google is being used by candidates, political junkies, dissidents, dirty trick political operatives and advocacy groups of every type. Millions are tuned in and, as I reported in this week’s NBC-TV High tech talk segment, , YouTube is becoming a political force to be reckoned with.

My favorite so far? The John Edwards “I feel Pretty” video. Runner up: John McCain’s
“Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Iran” to the tune of an old beach Boys song.

You can see an index of political videos from this special YouTube link.

Cool Royalty Free Mixing Program

For those of you making podcasts or audio files who really want them to sound professional, I’ve come across a terrific little program that lets you easily add front and back royalty free music clips to give your voice track a truly professional sound.

It’s from a guy named Mike Stewart, who is an expert in Internet audio. He has two volumes of royalty free music clips available that really spruce up audio. It’s the easiest program I’ve come across.

Small new camcorder

May 4, 2007 by admin · 1 Comment

My NBC-TV piece this week is on a small new camcorder called the Flip. It’s about the size of a fat cellphone and, with the $149 unit I tested, holds an hour’s worth of video. You can shoot as one long movie or a bunch of clips.

There’s no tape… it records on built in and erasable flash memory. And to transfer to your computer, burn to a DV or send as an e-mail or post on YouTube, just flip a switch on the side and a built in USB plug pops up for uploading to your Mac or PC.

It’s perfect to carry around in a shirt pocket. I’ve been using it to shoot videos while doing my bike riding. You can see them on my ClydesdaleFitness.com bicycle blog. I also posted some on my YouTube channel.
