July 31, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

Now there’s Mobileyes - a free mobile traffic camera service available for most of the big metro areas in the country.

The application for mobile devices is advertising-supported and delivers traffic cam images real-time from Hartford, Conn.; New York; Los Angeles; Kansas City; Houston; Knoxville; Indianapolis; and Washington, D.C.

It doesn’t work with the iPhone but is compatible with data enabled phones on the Sprint, Verizon Wireless, AT&T-Mobile networks. Users can access the service from anywhere on popular smart phones such as the BlackBerry, Palm Treo and the Motorola Q.

How to download YouTube videos

July 31, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

I’ve found a cool and easy-to-use program that lets you download YouTube videos.

The videos are easily viewed online but because they are in the Flash format, can’t be downloaded and saved to your hard drive and then used in, say, a PowerPoint presentation.

There’s a $25 program called Video Piggy that does it for you. It’s really simple. It allows you to convert those Flash videos to AVI, WMV, MPEG, MP4, MOV and 3GP video formats, for easy playback on your computer and DVD player. You can even extract the audio to an MP3 if you want.

Speedy label printer is very handy gizmo

July 31, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

One of the biggest printing hassles in the world is doing address labels, envelopes and the like. That’s why a label printer is a useful gadget.

A label printer is far from a necessity. But if you do a lot of shipping or use address labels for your mail, or have a need for name tags and the like, a standalone label printer sure can be handy. And with Christmas card season coming in a couple months and all that hand addressing, a good label printer can be a real time saver.

That’s what the Seiko Smart Label Printer 450 does. At about $130 or so online, this is Seiko’s fastest printer to date, spitting out labels at about one second each. It uses direct thermal technology, meaning there’s no need for printer cartridges, ink or toner. And it prints a respectable 300 dpi.

Here’s my video review:

My biggest disappointment is that this gizmo prints only in black and white. It hooks up to the USB port of your computer. Set-up takes about five minutes and it so so easy to use, you don’t even need to consult the instructions.

It does name tags, business-card labels and it works with both Macs and PCs.
