Twitter has become a must check for those looking for the latest on just about any major story. But when it’s a story like Hurricane Gustav and New Orleans, monitoring the latest tweets from Twitter users in the path of the storm is almost like being there. In addition, Twitter has set up two groups for those in the affected areas: One can be used to instantly post requests for help or emergency aid, such as a report that someone is on a roof or has a medical crisis. Shame on Apple: iPhone 3G is sub par

This hurts me to say it but…shame on Apple. The Apple 3G is a mess. Dropped calls, frozen screens, crashed apps. In and out 3G coverage. Agonizingly slow EDGE coverage. It’s not just me, look at the forums and you’ll find them filled with complaints. The 3G unit I got is .. at best… unreliable. And when it does work, the battery runs out mid-afternoon. Yes, I use push e-mail. And no, Apple, I don’t want to turn it off. That’s why I bought the phone. But push gobbles power so hungrily that the phone can’t even make its way through a single workday. That...

How credible is the news? Check its NewsCred

From the most recent NBC-TV PC Mike segment… The Internet has made everyone a critic. From eBay ratings to music reviews to social networking sites and now, to the news media. A new site keeps track of and chronicles breaking news from all over the world. That’s handy, sure… but what makes it unusual is that users vote on how credible the information is. The idea behind Newscred is amassing all the world’s credible news, in one place… typed by trustworthiness and how credible is the story. And that is determined by readers, not the media, who follow the story and then rate...
