Online Outsourcing: Elance connects businesses with professionals
From PC Mike’s NBC-TV segment...
The Internet has revolutionized the way we live and work, breaking down barriers and letting even small operators compete on a global scale. These days, a special website for freelancers is acting as a giant brokerage house for all sorts of business services. It’s called “Elance,” and it has quite the following.
It’s hard to say who this site is geared most towards… the freelancer or the prospective employer, looking to hire someone.
But if you need outside help on a project or piecemeal basis, here’s a site that instantly puts you in touch with thousands who are anxious to take on your project. I put a notice out for development of a logo. The first bid came in less than five minutes after I posted it. Within a day, I had 17 web designers and artists offering their services… from all over the world.
Elance specializes in creative work…computer and web programming, graphic dssign, writing. But there are also sales and marketing freelancers, researchers, , even accountants all available and ready to bid. To make sure projects are done, payment is handled through an escrow deposit, not released until everybody’s happy.
Basic services are free. Heavy users pay a subscription fee based on how many projects they bid on. Check it out here.
