BlackBerry Storm aims to one-up the iPhone

The BlackBerry Storm, coming soon to Verizon, is about to give the iPhone some serious competition. Seriously
It’s a touchscreen that appears in the photograph Verizon is showing off on its website to be a bit thicker than the iPhone but shares its minimalistic controls, with just four buttons along the bottom. The Verizon advertisement for the handheld asks but doesn’t answer the question “What does it feel like?” confirmation to me that the rumored haptics feedback – that little bump that signals a completed task – will indeed be part of the device.
The phone is probably the most anticipated BlackBerry yet. It was originally believed to have been called the Thunder. Somehow that became Storm. An internal Verizon briefing sheet for its employees says that if customers ask, they can tell them that the Storm will have an “innovative ‘click’ touch screen for smooth, precise text input.”
It also has a 3.2 megapixel camera that does stills and video. The iPhone’s 2.0 megapixel camera can’t handle video at present. Another big feature the Storm will have that the iPhone doesn’t is turn-by-turn navigation.
And it also has a removable battery. The iPhone’s can only be replaced by Apple.
Verizon has an exclusive deal to sell the Storm, which it claims is “groundbreaking.”. No price has yet been released and no release date has been set, other than “soon.”
The BlackBerry Storm isn’t the only long anticipated new mobile handset coming soon. Next week, we’re expected to see the first real mobile device based on Google’s open source Android operating system. T-Mobile is hosting a New York press event on Tuesday to reveal a model said to be called the Dream and made by Taiwanese maufacturer HTC.
