Comparing the iPhone and the gPhone

On Oct. 22nd, consumers will be able to tap into the latest craze in the cell phone industry – The new T-Mobile G1 “Google” phone featuring Google’s Andriod Mobile software. It compares to the Apple iPhone, but has several key differences:

Price – While the latest version of the iPhone costs $199.99, the G1 costs just $179 with a 2-year contract.
Interface – The G1 phone features a trackball and slide-out keyboard, which the iPhone does not.
The software – While Apple iPhone software is proprietary, Google has opened their operating system to third party developers, which will make pricing more competitive as more companies tap in. Additionally, since the Android operating system is being offered for free to phone makers, there will be many models of the phone.

Tech expert and President of SRV Services, Inc., Brian Swanson, comments, “There are always going to be pluses and minuses to every product, but overall the Google phone looks promising. The main differentiating factor is that its software is not proprietary. While this will make the costs stay down, there is also the chance for more bugs and possibly more unwanted advertising coming through the phone as well.”
