Comcast planning speed boosts

June 1, 2006 by Mike Wendland

With DSL competition breathing hard down its neck, Comcast is rolling out a service called PowerBoost that will basically double downoad speeds for customers subscribing to its 6 and 8 Mbps cable modem service tiers.

Customers in New England states already have it. The company says it will expand across other areas in future weeks.

The free speed boost to 12 and 16 Mbps is dependent on traffic and only available when extra capacity is available, a company spokesperson told CNet news.

That kind of speed IS Comcastic, huh?

Comcast internet service is excellent but I will not use them once they get competition because their cable television might be the most dishonest firm operatng in the united states ! They have no concept of customer service ! I advise all who use them to scrutinize your invoices ! You may like them but as a firm they, are like a ship without a rudder !

I don’t need another download speed bump. I barely get the speed they promise now. I generally saturate most connections now before reaching the available download speed I have. What I want is a price cut. I read recently that major broadband ISP bandwidth costs come to less than a $1 per month per user. Even accounting for equipment costs, they make plenty of profit. I want lower prices and more upload speed.
