Seriously people: Maybe it’s time you switched to Mac or Linux
Microsoft sucks. How many times have we heard people say that? Well, they’re saying it again even louder now after a major security flaw has been announced in the Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser. Is this deja vu or just a bad nightmare? Seriously, how many of these security breaches have we had from Microsoft? This time, no less than The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has advised computer users to abandon Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser until the company fixes a security flaw that hackers have used to launch attacks. So has the US Computer Emergency Readiness Team and its UK counterpart, suggesting that some IE users may want to…

Netflix to raise prices
The battle between cable TV programmers like Comcast and streaming providers like Netflix has just sharpened, with Netflix announcing a pretty steep price increase as it very publicly declared its opposition to Comcast’s planned acquisition of Time Warner’s cable operations. As smart TVs, Wi-Fi and the proliferation of Internet-connected tablets and smartphones over fast 4g speeds has made streaming so convenient, Netflix seems to have finally found its groove, actually beating the profit predictions of the anayalists for the last quarter. Netflix reported a first-quarter profit of $53 million, or 86 cents a share, up from $3 million, or five cents a share, a year ago. Revenue jumped 24% to…

You can also watch it up close with no loss of image quality,…

It’s cheaper to replace then repair an LED TV
For a guy who earns his living on television, I watch surprisingly little of it. But still, when my nine year old Samsung 46-inch LED went on the fritz this weekend, I suddenly felt unconnected. But what to do. First, the bad news. Not many places repair them. Parts are hard to get. Everything is on a circuit board. The board you need has to come from the manufacturer and that can take so much time that most independent electronic repair facilities find it financially prohibitive to try and fix them. Besides, they’re big and heavy and the owner has to unplug and haul them to a shop. Shop owners…

Google Glass available to anyone in U.S. for one day only April 15
Save your money. That’s my advice. As one who shelled out $1,500 to be part of the Google Glass Explorer program for its controversial wearable tech glasses, I can say that once the novelty wears off, Glass just isn’t that exciting or useful. That said, if you can’t stand being out of the loop, Google has announced that on April 15, for one day only, it will make Glass available to anyone in the U.S. Here’s their official announcement: “Any adult in the US can become an Explorer by visiting our site and purchasing Glass for $1500 + tax – and it now comes with your favorite shade or frame,…
