Gaming big focus today

Video gaming is the subject of much Press Day buzz out here at CES.

Sony will preview with a first time hands on demo its new PlayStation Portable handheld console at the Hard Rock Hotel at 1pm Vegas time. Some of the more rabid gamers say the PSP will be to 2005 what the Apple iPod was in 2004. It is expected to steal the portable game market thunder from the up-to-now leader, Nintendo, which pioneered the handheld format with the Game Boy. I’ll MOBlog pictures here ASAP.

Then tonight, Bill Gates does the CES opening keynote over at the Hilton. The rumor this morning is that he will unveil details about the much-anticipated Xbox2.

Just a reminder: whoever is saying the PSP is an iPod killer needs a swift kick to the head. They’re in different markets that appeal to different people. A memory stick MP3 player is no match for a hard drive-based one.
