PCM24 – We Need Faster Speeds for Cable Internet! (And It’s Here…)
Whether streaming media, working from home, both, or more, when it comes to Internet bandwidth and speeds, we always seem to need more, more, more! Providers are starting to deliver, too. Take Comcast. The cable/Internet giant is rolling out new offerings that deliver up to a whopping 2GB per second of upland and download speed. In no-geek-speak terms, that means insanely fast. To give you an idea of just how fast, this story the Washington Post did last year says the fastest average speeds in the United States was 29MB per second (of course, that was waayyyyy back in January, 2014). PCM23: Coincidence or Not, Computer Glitches Show We’re Too Tech-centric
Were the so-called “computer glitches” this week at the New York Stock Exchange, United Airlines, and Wall Street Journal all purely coincidental or not? PC Mike Podcast 21: Oh No! I’ve Been Robbed!
The PC Mike Techcast has taken a few weeks off, but not by choice – it was because a couple of thugs stole PC Mike’s tech gear at the very start of a cross-country RVing adventure. It only took a few minutes, too. The bad guys took computers, cameras, recording equipment, and more, essentially turning what was supposed to be a quick dinner into an endeavor costing thousands. It was bad but thankfully no one was hurt. It could’ve been worse. So it’s on with the show, starting with Mike’s recap of the burglary and how preparing ahead of time helped lessen the impact somewhat. Among other things, Mike mentions:…

PCM20: When Tech Turns! Why I Cancelled My Apple Watch, How Facebook Hurts
Tech has made our world better in so many ways, but – as Apple Watch and Facebook sometimes shows us – that doesn’t mean it occasionally can’t turn on us. Take PC Mike’s experience with Apple Watch. After waking in the middle of the night to order it not too long ago, he finally got sick of the delays and run around and simply cancelled his order. Mike talks about why he cancelled his order and how he feels about Apple now. Then, Mike talks to Douglas Kenrick, a professor at Arizona State University and author of several books, and ASU Researcher Jessica Bodford, about ways Facebook is bad for…
