Don’t fall for phony Comcast phishing scam
I’ve heard from several readers over the weekend who have been getting phony e-mails claiming to be from Comcast, requesting information such as login ID info and credit card numbers. They phishing scams threaten to discontinue service unless you submit all of this information.
The emails look authentic, although if you look closely you may find some misspelled words.
Comcast has posted a security alert about the issue, noting “Please remember, Comcast will never ask for your password or billing information via email.”

I cannot believe that people STILL need to be warned about this type of scam. Sheesh, ANY email asking for such information should be deleted and/or reported (i.e., to the company whose name is being used, which in this case is Comcast).

You have to realize that they are new users to the Internet EVERY DAY. It is mostly these new users that are being ‘trapped’. There will always be a group ripe for exploitation and these criminals are fully aware of this and use it to their advantage.
It’s like using a gun for the first time…if you took gun safety first you will be in much better shape. Some people that are older maybe don’t feel they need gun safety will be vulnerable to injury. The same is true on the Internet. Those who never learn the basic do’s and don’t’s are vulnerable to injury. People are always capable of making bad choices.
