Speedy label printer is very handy gizmo

One of the biggest printing hassles in the world is doing address labels, envelopes and the like. That’s why a label printer is a useful gadget.

A label printer is far from a necessity. But if you do a lot of shipping or use address labels for your mail, or have a need for name tags and the like, a standalone label printer sure can be handy. And with Christmas card season coming in a couple months and all that hand addressing, a good label printer can be a real time saver.

That’s what the Seiko Smart Label Printer 450 does. At about $130 or so online, this is Seiko’s fastest printer to date, spitting out labels at about one second each. It uses direct thermal technology, meaning there’s no need for printer cartridges, ink or toner. And it prints a respectable 300 dpi.

Here’s my video review:

My biggest disappointment is that this gizmo prints only in black and white. It hooks up to the USB port of your computer. Set-up takes about five minutes and it so so easy to use, you don’t even need to consult the instructions.

It does name tags, business-card labels and it works with both Macs and PCs.
