Google Maps Now Includes Intelligent Bike Routes

Bikers rejoice, Google has just added intelligent biking directions for more than 12,000 U.S. bike trails as a new option inside Google Maps. The company writes that the new biking features will “include as much bike trail data as possible, provide efficient routes, allow riders to customize their trip, make use of bike lanes, calculate rider-friendly routes that avoid big hills and customize the look of the map for cycling to encourage folks to hop on their bikes.” The new option now sits next to the current Google Maps standbys — car, public transit and walking — for...

Tweeting Bike Keeps Festival Goers Updated [VIDEO]

An ongoing festival in London is offering a unique way of keeping up with happenings: following a tweeting bike on Twitter. The East Festival — boasting a “uniquely rich creative mix of East London” — will be documented in part by the “Twike”, a two-wheeled creation from Pete Fowler , who is no doubt tired of being described as the Super Furry Animal’s in-house artist. TomTom claims over 100,000 iPhone app downloads

Over 100,000 copies of the TomTom iPhone app have been downloaded, the company claims in its latest quarterly results. The title is one of the more expensive ones at the App Store, currently costing at least $60 in a US-only edition. Google Maps Get Labs With Nine Cool New Features

Here’s a nice surprise from Google’s Maps team: just like Gmail, Google Maps now also have the Labs feature (it’s the little green vial in the top right menu), which brings experimental new features for you to try out. Right now, you can try out nine new features (all disabled by default): Drag ‘n’ Zoom – lets you zoom in on a specific part of the map by drawing a box.
