Spring Clean Your Computer

It’s springtime and time for spring cleaning. And just like the house and yard, our computers need some spring cleaning of their own. Here are some ideas on how to get rid of the gunk and junk that slows them down. Start with the biggest gunk collector… your keyboard. First turn it over and tap out the junk. If you have a can of compressed air, use it, too. Then use water, mixed with diluted dishwash soap, and clean the keys. Then clean your computer fans. Blow them out with compressed air, too. Be wary of spyware posing as holiday screensavers

This is the season for twinkling holiday lights and Christmas trees. Neighborhoods are aglow and houses are shining. But before you fall for an Internet pitch urging you to do the same with holiday programs for your computer, you’d better think before downloading. My NBC-TV High Tech Report this week notes that there are scores of sites urging you to decorate your desktop this holiday season with great-looking Christmas-themed screensavers and wallpaper like this very popular Night Before Christmas animated scene.
