Conficker worm a no show

I don’t want to say I told you so but… the world still turns, even though the Conficker worm is still supposedly out there wiggling. Like Y2K and a hundred other false scares largely foisted upon a gullible media by makers of anti-virus software, the big April Fool’s day fiasco predicted to be unleashed by the Conficker Worm hasn’t materialized. As April 1 came to Australia, Asia and then Europe, reports of problems were hard to find. Same as the East Coast U.S. woke up. But all you heard from mainstream media outlets all week was that this was the worm of all worms, able... 

Take Conficker Worm hype with a healthy dose of skepticsm

Over the past decade – ever since the Y2K scare exploded and promptly fizzled – we’ve been deluged with wave after wave of “the sky is falling” warnings about this virus or that worm and dire predictions that the Internet will soon end as we know it. The latest involves a worm called Conficker that is expected to activate April 1. Some of the hype has it turning on a global army of infected computers and crippling the Net. I’ve done two interviews with media just today on this. And neither reporter seemed to like it when I said I didn’t think it would...
