Apple’s iTunes moves podcasting to mainstream
Apple has made its iTunes software more friendly with podcasting and moves what was once a niche Internet activity to the mainstream. A new iTunes Podcast Directory features over 3,000 free podcasts that users can subscribe to. Once subscribed, the directory automatically checks for updated shows and downloads new episodes to your computer. This podcasting bandwagon is rolling on in a major way and Apple’s leadership here is a big reason.

I wonder how Apple decided who does and who does not get added to its Podcasting directory? It’s puts Apple in the position of “gatekeeper” or “censor” (which is an interesting situation since I’m sure that Apple would rather be a purely tech company rather than an “ethical judge”). But, I’m sure that there are some Podcasts that are NOT “family friendly” and would be inappropriate for kids to download… It’s funny how new technology sometimes brings new “ethical” challenges…
And what about religious programming (since that is very popular Podcasting subject). What if there is a religious program that has a belief that may run countercultural… Would that give Apple the right to exclude that programming from its list?
Just some thoughts?

Give me a break, you act as if Apple invented podcasting.
It shows your clear Apple bias to even remotely suggest that podcasting isn’t legitimate until iTunes supports it.

Apple may not have invented podcasting…
But because of iTunes, it put it on the map for millions of mom-and-pop users… Before iTunes, it was a toy for the tech-savy…
Also, it is call “pod”-casting after all… And we all know who invented the iPod…
