Big screen monitor

July 14, 2005 by Mike Wendland

Set up LCD TVs.jpgReader John Eisenschenk from Grand Rapids, MI has his priorities right. He recently bought a big screen TV to replace the 19-incher in his apartment. He also bought a 20-inch monotor for his ‘putrer. But after bringing home the ViewSonic 31 1/2″ LCD Monitor/TV and the monitor he thought about what was really important and allocated the new big screen to his computer and the 20-incher for the TV. The picture shows the system. Writes John:

I had other plans for the 20″ but am now using it as my TV while I use the big one as a monitor. It is totally awesome as a monitor. I have the resolution set to the highest that my video card and the set is compatible with, which is 1280×768 and the print and icons are large enough to see from a distance. It is a whole new computing experience. The price is awesome for what we get.

That is one giant computer screen. Way cool John.

The only problem is with the resolution at 1280 x 768. A 31 inch monitor at that resolution would make icons huge, and you still wouldn’t get any increase in screen real estate. For instance, my 20 inch LCD monitor has a resolution of 1600 x 1200. Although it is smaller, it actually has more usable screen area to work with (and I don’t have to stand 10 feet back).

Of course, for the vision impaired, this idea may be perfect…
