Video format hassles make vBlogging cumbersome
Here’s another video file, this one taken by the Nokia N90 smartphone, one of the most advanced devices of its kind. I’ll be writing about it later this week.
But the N90 records in MPEG4. And this VideoEgg blogging tool doesn’t recognize the format. Nor does VideoEgg work with Macs. So, to use from a PC, that means $29.95 has to be spent spent for Apple’s Quicktime Pro.
But QT Pro doesn’t save in wmf format. But it does save in avi, which VideoEgg takes. So it is possible to get those files blogged here. But that’s about three steps more than there should be. Plus, the format of choice for Gannett Newspapers is wmf, which means using this Fujitsu Lifebook 1500 Tablet PC laptop I’m filing from not a good tool for me to vblog to the Detroit Free Press site.
These format conflicts are ridiculous. If vBlogging, Podcasting and the like are really going to take off, a whole bunch of somebodies better get their acts together. We live in a cross platform world and these apps should all work that way.
Meanwhile, here’s a site with lots of tips that seem to offer solutions to my intitial issues.
