Mike's NBC-TV stories

Traveling Tech: Tools and Toys

We travel a lot in a small RV motorhome and like to keep tabs on our brick and mortar home back in Michigan. Besides a security service, we use this Belkin NetCam HD camera with night vision to let us check up on our home. It transmits live sound and video over the net. We can then see that video from wherever we happen to be on our smartphone through a special app. The app’s free, the camera is $129.

We also like to listen to our own music, usually using a streaming service like Pandora or Spotify on our cellphones. And we watch streaming video and movies from Netflix. For good sound, we use the Logitech UE Mini Boom box. It works via Bluetooth with our smartphone and tablet. Cost is about $89.

Another speaker system we use while traveling is the Motorola Roadster Pro. This offers great hands free, voice-powered phone use. It uses four built in microphones with noise cancelling for maximum clarity. Cost is $129 and it can work with two cellphones.
