Cool Gadget: The new GoPro Black Edition

The new GoPro Hero Black Edition is the top of the line GoPro camera, with higher resolution and all sorts of great new options. It comes with built in WiFi.

With the app for the iPhone or Android, you can control the camera and review the images you are capturing right on your smartphone. Brilliant.

I also picked up a $79 option, a video viewfinder that snaps on the back of the camera.

What makes the GoPro Hero 3 so fun are the many different mounts  and cases available. I have a helmet mount for my bicycle. I also have a suction cup mount that I attach to my RV to take cool driving shots.

And, thanks to the gift of a reader from Canada who I met in the Brimley State Park in Michigan last summer,  I have a homemade  mount on a telescoping mono pad that lets me get up high shots or to use for walking stand ups.

The camera comes with a waterproof case that lets you get all sorts of cool underwater shots as well.

The video and still quality of the GoPro is stunning. You can slow it down, speed it up and edit very professional videos, either with your own editing software or the free GoPro Studio editing program that is a free download.

I have a lot of cameras and have used a previous version of the GoPro. But this new new Black Ediition with Wi-Fi GoPro Hero 3 is 30% smaller, 25% lighter and twice as powerful as earlier models.Cost of all this: $329. I plan to use this a lot for my video, which you’ll be able to see, right here.
