Apps: What’s Being Said About You on Social Media?

The recent hacking of a bunch of celebrity photos has everyone wondering how to monitor and keep track of what’s being said online about us and our friends. I have some apps that will help you keep track of your social footprint.

Knowing what’s being said and posted about you in social media is where the free Mention app for Apple and Android comes in. It’s a search and alert service. Plug in your name and it scours the Web to find new mentions of your search term and then alerts you when it finds it. The free version is fine for individuals, a pro version starts at $29 a month and is aimed at business users.

Social Mention is a web-based service that works on your computer tracking posts across the web and social media channels. Additionally, Social Mention provides sentiment analysis on social media mentions and hashtag tracking as part of its service.

Cloze is free and helpful iPhone app that collects tweets, emails, Facebook posts, and other bits of communication from your contacts, and prioritizes them based on people who are most relevant to you. In other words, even though say, your boss isn’t chronologically at the top of your Twitter feed, they will be at the top of your Cloze feed. It’s a great tool for getting relevant information about people close to you.
