    Gardening Apps for 2017

    April 12, 2017 /

Anyone who’s taken on gardening with little to no success may take some solace in knowing that they aren’t alone. Need proof? A growing number of apps are available to help gardeners with, well, their growing. This week, I have three of the latest. Simply take a picture of the plant and the app will recognize what it is, and help guide you on caring for it. Set your smartphone or tablet to receive alerts when it’s time to water, fertilize, and weed you plants. The app is free for iOS.…

    Best Gardening Apps for 2016

    April 27, 2016 /

With warmer temps comes a lot more green, specifically in our gardens. If you don’t do it right, though, you can waste a lot of green, specifically from your wallet. I have three apps to get those gardens going right. Garden Plan Pro is one of the best all-around apps for getting your garden organized. The app helps you design your own gardens, from planting raised beds and rows to proper placement of containers. You get growing information for nearly 200 different plants plus tips on about rotating crops, when to water, even best planting and harvesting dates specific to location. The app is $7.99 for iOS. The GrowIt! app puts…

    May 19, 2015 /

It’s garden planting time! But planting the wrong greenery or garden in the wrong place and at the wrong time can ruin anyone’s chances at making the best of the warm, summer growing season. Fortunately, a number of apps are available to help plan ahead of time, potentially save users lots of time, money, and trouble. Eden Garden Designer lets users virtually plant greenery and “see” what their yards could look like before a shovel is even taken out of the shed. Take a picture of your yard and select from 40 of the most common plants to “plant” virtual greenery in your real space. Users can search for plants…

It’s Time! Best Gardening Apps for 2014

    May 14, 2014 /

With warm weather and spring now in full bloom, it’s time to get serious about our gardens. Growing fresh vegetables is fun and healthy and I have some apps for smartphones and tablets that will help your garden grow like you really have a green thumb. My favorite app this year is the Organic Gardening Planting Planner for the iPhone. It starts with a calendar to maximize your planning and time your planting for your region of the country. This free guide covers vegetable, fruits and flowers, from artichokes to zucchini. This is a great resource app for new and experienced gardeners alike. The Burpee Seed people have a great…
