That’s why this week we talk about what you actually need to know in no-geek-speak terms about things like wearables (Apple Watch, Google Glass), drones, live video streaming and apps designed to turn you into an instant astronomer. PCM003 Podcast: A Look at 2014 Tech – From Best to Google Glass

    December 26, 2014 /

In this episode of the PC Mike Podcast, I reveal my choice of the worst tech gadget of 2014 – Google Glass. Google Glass sucks. There’s just no way to make this turkey look good. It’s the worst tech gadget I’ve used used this year, shelling out $1,500 for it just 11 months ago. It has a dismally short battery life, very few useful apps, is difficult to sync with smartphones and the public thinks those who wear Google Glass to be “Glassholes.” [spp-player]

Google Glass available to anyone in U.S. for one day only April 15

    April 11, 2014 /

Save your money. That’s my advice. As one who shelled out $1,500 to be part of the Google Glass Explorer program for its controversial wearable tech glasses, I can say that once the novelty wears off, Glass just isn’t that exciting or useful. That said, if you can’t stand being out of the loop, Google has announced that on April 15, for one day only, it will make Glass available to anyone in the U.S. Here’s their official announcement: “Any adult in the US can become an Explorer by visiting our site and purchasing Glass for $1500 + tax – and it now comes with your favorite shade or frame,…

My personal tech gear lineup for 2014

    January 19, 2014 /

I get lots of questions about the tech gear I use to capture and blog for this blog and my RV travel blog. I change and add gear all the time so this is current as of the last update note below. (Last Updated – January 19, 2014) My main video camera: I use the Canon XA20  Professional Video Camera. I love this camera. It is the perfect “run-and-gun” camcorder that is suitable for HD Electronic News Gathering (ENG), event coverage, independent and documentary filmmaking. The camera features a 1/2.84″, 1920 x 1080 CMOS sensor that captures video at various frame rates up to 59.94p, including a 24p mode for a more…

    Apps to stay organized

    January 15, 2014 /

Being organized and more productive is right up there at the top of everyone’s wish list. Thanks to some very helpful and powerful apps for our various mobile devices,  it’s never been easier. The personal  organizer that’s getting all the buzz these days is called Springpad and it’s a free, glitzy little productivity tool for the iPhone and Android platforms. Its motto is everyday life, done better and it is a task manager, project organizer and a very user friendly way to use your tablet or smartphone to juggle a bunch of different projects and ideas by setting up notebooks to keep track of everything. You can also use a…
